Fresh Edits, Fresh Cover, Fresh Audiobook

I’ve been spending much of my time this year getting my portfolio of books in shape. Not only do I have two new audiobook projects in the works (to be narrated by the incomparable Helen Taylor), but I’ve dipped my toe in the AI arena.

Preparing a manuscript for audiobook narration, be it human or AI, is a challenge. What seems straightforward on a written page–such as which character is speaking–is not always clear to an audiobook listener. Therefore, I must edit the manuscript with additional information to make the task easier.

My personal preference, always, is human narration. Unfortunately, the cost is prohibitive for all but the most bestselling books. I’m not sure most readers know that audiobook narration with an experienced voice actor can cost approximately $190 per finished hour and up. So, for a 250 page book (6.7 hours long), the audiobook might cost upwards of $1,280 to produce. Therefore, I must approach the task of publishing audiobooks with an eye to practicality.

To that end, Rumer Has It has undergone an extensive edit to prepare the story for AI narration. It’s now available in audiobook format HERE. The paperback and ebook are available at Amazon and various other online bookstores as well.

Let me know what you think of the finished product! It was prepared with tender loving care by yours truly and I hope you enjoy it.

~ Suzanne

P.S. Look for Lord Apollo & the Colleen in audiobook format, coming in June!

New Cover for RUMER HAS IT

We all need a change from time to time! My historical romance, Rumer Has It , now has a new cover. I think Jocelyn’s cheeky smile hints at the fun in the story.

Will the war between the sexes remain civil?

Jocelyn Rumer Conroy’s newspaper column allows her to write gossip about the population of Charleston while avoiding scrutiny of her own family secrets. She’s used to having her own way, but when arrogant and cosmopolitan Piers Wilde is brought into the newspaper, she chafes under his supervision. As they become writing partners in a new agony column, their relationship becomes fraught with tension…and an inconvenient attraction that cannot be denied.

Rumer Has It is a sweet historical romance set in 1910 Charleston.

A sweet historical romance set in 1910 Charleston.

I became interested in Charleston, South Carolina when my son began to attend college there. Although the town has changed and grown since it was founded in 1670, due to the War Between the States, a horrific earthquake in 1886, and numerous hurricanes, it has retained a unique sophisticated and cultured charm.

Rumer Has It is set in an era when rapid technological advancements began to shape America into a more modern society. Electricity, automobiles, telephones, silent movies, and the typewriter were becoming common. Hemlines were rising a trifle and the use of cosmetics for young ladies was no longer taboo. Of course, human nature being what it is, gossip was ubiquitous and rumors flew as quickly as a redtailed hawk after a field mouse.

My headstrong heroine, Jocelyn Rumer Conroy, works for a local newspaper as a gossip columnist and in sales. She loves her job…until handsome, arrogant Piers Wilde is hired as the new senior editor. When they become writing partners in an agony column, fireworks ensue.

Rumor has it that a certain lady and a certain gentleman may be falling in love…if they can only stop arguing first.

Rumer Has It will be released on July 28, 2020. Reserve your Kindle copy HERE.
