Originally from Southern California, Suzanne G. Rogers has also lived in Asheville, North Carolina and Laurel, Mississippi. Currently residing in beautiful Savannah, Georgia, Suzanne writes sweet historical romance, fantasy, and romantic fantasy stories. She’s owned by a hairless cat, Houdini, and lives on an island populated by exotic birds, deer and the occasional gator. Tab is her beverage of choice, but when she imbibes, a cranberry vodka martini doesn’t go amiss.

Ms. Rogers,
I’m a copy editor and proofreader. I’ve enjoyed your Diary videos and I thank you for making those available. I’m going to recommend them to several writers I work with.
I do have a comment about publishing versus self-publishing. It seems that authors are not educated about the difference between content, copy, and line editors. Proofreaders are a whole different beast.
Many times I’ve read books that were not even proofread for basic grammatical errors and when I’ve brought this to the attention of the writer, s/he is shocked and assures me that the book has been “edited” by the publisher. It, unfortunately, seems to happen most frequently for self-pubs that are “clean.” Perhaps you could do a more in depth diary entry about using content editors, beta readers, and line editors/proofreaders so the new writers can understand the process and what they should expect along the way?
Thanks,
Paula Bothwell
