An Unexpected Romance

For Heather Grimstock, an unforeseen turn of events allows her to move in society. Although she is expected to make a good match when she comes of age, she begins to have feelings for someone she’s known almost all her life. Unfortunately, if she confesses her attraction, she risks losing his friendship forever.

For Myles King, his early childhood was full of loss—until a strange girl came to rescue him from loneliness. Years later, even as his graduation looms, he yearns for a simpler time when he felt carefree. He dreads change, but when it is finally forced upon him, he realizes the person who is most dear to him is right under his nose.

Unfortunately, a secret from the past may destroy their chance of happiness…unless an unexpected romance can work a miracle.

An Unexpected Romance (Book Four of the Graceling Hall Series) will be released Tuesday, December 10th, but you can pre-order it now at a special price HERE.

The Vanishing Beauty • Pre-Release

Book Three of the Graceling Hall Series will be released on September 24th. To celebrate, I have updated the covers of Books One and Two.

The Vanishing Beauty

Lee Grimstock’s gritty past as a street urchin has contributed to the success of his mystery novels. When he is obliged to take in his incorrigible niece, however, he is hard-pressed to raise her properly. He cannot seem to keep a governess—until Josephine Wilkes crosses his path.

Desperate to find work, Josie accepts the position Lee Grimstock offers. Unfortunately, since her prospective employer despises the theater, she feels obliged to hide her time on the stage. His publisher’s daughter has designs on Lee, however, and the new governess is in her way. By hook or by crook, Miss Pilgrim will do whatever it takes to separate the two, without any qualms whatsoever.

When Josie’s past catches up to her, she disappears into the mean streets of Victorian-era London. Lee sets out to track down the vanishing beauty…and finds romance along the way.

The Vanishing Beauty is available at a special pre-release price of $0.99 (regularly $3.99), so order your Kindle copy HERE now!

Upcoming Release • Lady of a Gilded Age

Life happened, my writing schedule was disrupted, and my last release was in June of 2023. Those challenges, however, make this particular release that much sweeter.

Lady of a Gilded Age is a standalone novel, but it is a sequel to Duke of a Gilded Age. If you have not already read Duke of a Gilded Age, here is a little more about the story:

Blurb: When American-born Wesley Parker inherits a dukedom in 1890, he must be taught how to be an aristocrat. Assigned to the task is his attorney’s daughter, prim Belle Oakhurst. As they travel to England together on a luxurious ocean liner, their tempestuous relationship encounters more than rough seas. Neither Wesley nor Belle can foresee that their voyage across the Atlantic will be fraught with peril, and will cost more than one man his life.

Lady of a Gilded Age follows Stephen van Eyck and his sister, Louise, about five years after the events described in Book One. The story is set mainly in the fictitious town of Little Paisley, which is located in the county of Wiltshire. As I wrote Lady of a Gilded Age, I truly enjoyed spending more time with the Van Eyck siblings. There is also one other witty, unforgettable character from Book One who makes a special appearance in Book Two, and I loved spending time with him as well.

Blurb: In the wake of romantic disappointment, Stephen van Eyck and his sister, Louise, decide to leave England and return to Philadelphia. When he inherits a property from an earl he barely remembers, however, they delay their departure long enough to visit the place. Once Stephen discovers the residence is magnificent, he feels compelled to make amends for his windfall to the earl’s heirs. Unfortunately, the beautiful Lady Delphine wants nothing to do with him.

You can reserve your copy of Lady of a Gilded Age as a pre-order right now, at a special price of $0.99. Once it is released, on Tuesday, May 7th, the full price will be $3.99. Don’t wait!

How the Sausage Was Made

Believe it or not, One Little Kiss has been in development since late 2022. I prepared an extensive outline beforehand, including dialogue and scene snippets, and thought I would be able to hammer out the book in short order.

Hold the phone.

As I wrote, I begun to realize the conflicts were too easily resolved, the book was too short, and I had some character issues hampering the tone. When I was largely done with the manuscript, I had to weigh whether or not to toss the entire thing or begin a massive rewrite.

Nearly six months later, after a complete overhaul, the book weighs in at 378 pages, the characters are far more interesting than before, and the story is engaging. I delve into a great many more human flaws and weaknesses than I had originally planned, and I’ve taken some risks with my hero and heroine.

Orson Welles said in advertisements for Paul Masson California wine, “We will sell no wine before its time.” To paraphrase Welles, I release no book before it is ready. One Little Kiss is ready, so I do hope you like it.

So This Happened…

Last month, I celebrated The Mannequin topping over 1,000 reviews/ratings on Amazon. This month, Duke of a Gilded Age has amassed 2,426 reviews/ratings. Also, Jessamine’s Folly has 2,328 ratings/reviews.

Although I love to write, my goal has always been to always to reach as many people as possible. I am glad to have a concrete way to measure that goal and, as always, I’m thankful for my readers.

A Cause for Celebration

When I first began publishing, every new review meant my books were being noticed and read. Of course, being new meant my reviews numbered in the single digits or, occasionally, a dozen or so. A few of my books still number in the single digits, actually, all these years later.

Some fellow authors of my acquaintance had amassed an unheard of number of reviews in jaw-dropping numbers…eight hundred and more. A sizable number of reviews was a badge of honor in the writing community, and I wanted to earn that badge. Since I was not a New York Times Bestselling Author, how was such a feat to be achieved?

At that time, I learned the most achievable way to get a sizable number of reviews was to advertise with BookBub. My first BookBub feature was for Larken, back in June of 2015. When I applied for the Featured Deal, Larken only had 28 reviews and I was certain it would be rejected. To my shock, it was accepted for a Featured Deal and did very well for me in many ways. Not only did readers leave reviews, but many went on to buy my other books. As of this writing, Larken has 831 ratings on Amazon–a number I could only dream about in 2015.

I’m all about celebrating achievements, small and large. Therefore, I would like to raise my glass in a toast to The Mannequin–the first of my books to have over 1,000 reviews. As of this writing, The Mannequin has earned 1,178 ratings on Amazon.

Thank you to my readers, for sticking with me.
